MENU

The strength of this bar's menu is in its simplicity. The "aperitivos" (fancy way of saying tapas) are amongst the best I have tasted. A good light lunch that goes down well when you're wondering whether it can get any hotter!

LANGUAGE

If any of the staff speak English, then I don't know about it. Your pocket phrase book won't always help you with the menu ...so here's a few clues:

Navajas: Razor Shells
Alitas: A made-up word for small wings
Muslitos: Another made-up word--usually covers small chicken legs and any other meat that has been pressed together (like crab).
Chipirones: Baby squid (feeling brave?)
Figatells: turn out to be a small burger (made, at least in part, with liver) and skewered to bread (see below).
Montaditos: bite-size savouries (often held together with a cocktail stick).

Don't say I don't try to help out!

COMMENTS

I've dined well at Bar Las Palmeras for about 12€ per head. Certainly better value than similar venues at Oliva beach. Location: Avenida del Mar, Piles beach (stop sniggering, it's pronounced 'pee-lays'). There isn't much of Piles beach and this bar is near the end of the main road in and just before things get too Mediterranean for cars!
