Javea (pronounced "kha-vay-ah") is a town of two smaller parts. The historic or Old Town (not pictured here) ...typically Spanish, built on a hill and with a church nearly atop the hill. There is a once-weekly market in the Old Town (Thursday).
Javea has a very large English community and most Spanish people speak some English. The Supermarkets stock those little extras from England that you might miss at prices that will make you think twice about waiting until you get home.
There are even some restaurants in Javea run by English people ...though the food is English I have found its quality wanting and would sooner dine somewhere run by Spanish people.
The beaches are excellent and the shopping opportunities are near at hand.
Javea is one of those places that I have never really objected to going to ...but find myself breathing an inner sigh of relief, on the homeward journey, when I pass the border into the Province of Valencia.
Whilst in Jávea, try playing my favourite game of "Spot the Bounder." The rules are very simple. Javea is full of ex-pat Brits who have re-invented past lives for themselves (I have never met so many retired Colonels or erstwhile captains of industry concentrated in such a small space). See how many you can spot!
