Gandia town lays back from its beach by about 3 kilometres and has a bustling centre. The Paseo has a central tree-lined esplanade, two fountains, roadside cafés and a number of banks that offer the facility of being to use British debits cards (such as Switch and Delta) from cash dispensers. The best time to visit the old town shopping street called the Carrer Major is in the evening when its many shops in a pedestrianised precinct offer many opportunities to take in the history and atmosphere of the place as it does to browse among the various goodies on sale.
The Town Hall (or 'Ayuntamiento') stands in a plaza that is in the good company of a large church that is circled by doves and I line of cafés offering a fine selection of evening meals.
