You know, architects have as much to answer for as sculptors and the offering (top left) looks like a 1920s British cinema, doesn't it? It is, in fact, the local crematorTown planners have made their own contribution to the over-all appeal of Dénia ...witness this little plaza (right) with perfectly good trees cut into parasol shapes, stone benches tastefully adorned with graffiti and a 'fountain' completely devoid of water (you can view the rusting remains of the thing that was supposed to produce the water jets, by looking over the side).

And now a word or two about the Spanish Rastro. I know that not everybody perusing these pages is doing so because they plan to take a holiday.

Buying a place in the sun is all very well ...but (especially) if it's a second home then you're going to need all kinds of furniture, appliances, tools, ornaments, paintings and utensils. You can always buy all of these things new ...or you can shop around the flea markets (called Rastros in Spain)!

This Rastro in Dénia uses the same site as the town's weekly open-air market. Other Rastro in the area include Jalón (Xaló on some maps) on a Saturday and Teulada on a Sunday. There is a comprehensive list of open-air markets on this site. Listings cover Alicante and Valencia provinces and you can access these listings by clicking here.
