Calpe
Beach

Calpe is a costal city that has the same strangely grey beaches as Moraira. The day was a little misty when I took these photos ...but the mottling effect on the mountain behind the beach (right) is, in fact, part of Calpe's phenomenal suburban sprawl and holiday villas march relentlessly higher.

The Peņon (right) (pronounced Pain-yonn) dominates most of Calpe's skyline. The word means nothing more than 'Rock' (as in the Rock of Gibraltar). The beach itself has everything to choose from (rocks, sand or a stroll along the promenade).

There is the inevitable half-finished hotel (left) to mess up your holiday snaps, but you can drown your sorrows at one of the seafront's plethora of watering holes (bottom left) ...these will charge you waterfront prices ...to make a saving just walk a few streets away from the beach and find a bar!
